Interfaith Center for Peace
We make peace work!

We have an upcoming training to announce!

Sunday, March 21st, 2:00-6:00 p.m.
Practices for Peace: Deep Listening, Storytelling, and Dialogue

with Lisa Kreischer, Community Coordinator, Institute of Noetic Science of Central Ohio

In this workshop we will create a safe place to express our selves and learn to speak with intention and listen with attention. We will discover how deep listening can be empowering to the listener and the speaker. We will establish connection via storytelling and through that connection find a way to peace and presence. We will finally engage our new skills in a dialogue process, sometimes called sitting in circle, where we will seek out our assumptions, observe our judgments and trust what emerges as a result.

Location: Indianola Presbyterian Church, 1970 Waldeck Avenue, Columbus

Cost: $15/person or $10 for Partners for Peace members, students, and those with financial need

You may remember meeting Lisa at our October 25th Children of Abraham Conference - she led two workshops on deep listening.  The feedback from those workshops was so positive that we wanted to offer our community a chance to explore deep listening and other skills for peacebuilding more intensely.  We hope you will join us!  Registration materials will be on our website very soon, and will be sent out through email in the coming weeks.

2010 Martin Luther King Day Peace School Report:

We are excited to share with you that we had a very successful Martin Luther King Peace School at Covenant Presbyterian Church on January 18th.  We brought together a group of about 60 students, volunteers, teachers, and participants!  We held classes for preschoolers, elementary school children, youth, and adults.  Many people came to learn with family members, and some - including 7 volunteers from OSU - came to serve.  Members of the Jewish, Muslim, Christian, and Unitarian Universalist community attended.  We were given coverage on NBC Channel 4's noon news covering MLK activities around Columbus - our first time on TV!

One of our participants later wrote: "Ours was a small AND mighty celebration of such a remarkable life and legacy - so meaningful and measurably moving...I was so uplifted by my time with the community you gathered today and the lessons and connections that moved forward with me through my day will continue to energize and inspire me for many days to come."

Thank you to all of you who participated and helped with this project!  We are blessed to have shared this experience with you, and look forward to doing it again next MLK Day!
